How To Eat Healthy Out: Chipotle Edition

The question I get asked most often when challengers are trying to make healthy choices with their nutrition is, how do I eat out and not monitor ingredients/portion sizes? In honor of Taco Tuesday, I'll breakdown Chipotle, 21 Day Fix options. 
I always start by getting a salad. 
As far as your containers go, you have options for.....

YELLOW:  
rice
corn
beans (black or pinto)
tortilla shell
chips

BLUE:
cheese
avocado
sour cream

RED: 
barbacoa 
chicken
steak
pork carnitas

GREEN: 
lettuce
veggies

Let's be real, we know that their avocado is straight from Heaven, but it also costs extra. If you decide on guac, get it on the side in a container or they'll automatically plop 5 of those blue containers on your meal before you know it. 

I always have them load up on veggies and I usually get the chicken. 
Skip the sugary dressing and load it was tomatoes (mild). 

My typical order is a salad with: 
light black beans
chicken
a ton of veggies
mild salsa
light corn
guac

My rule of thumb is, the more green, the better. 

Without the guac, this is still a full meal, trust me. I used to leave Chipotle feeling like I was going to explode from a burrito bowl (without even finishing it), now I leave feeling great and happy (especially, now that they're GMO free)! I'm not sure about you, but a lot of times, I'll just carelessly eat what's in front of me, if you order smaller portions up front, you'll eat less!

As I look back, I think it's incredible how far I've come in my journey. This isn't just about weightloss, fitness, healthy eating, or fancy recipes -- this is about confidence, growth, sharing your life with others, and encouraging others in their journey. Over the course of the last year and a half, I've set up small habits to create a life I love. I've rooted these habits deep by repeating them day in and day out. I am strong and I am rooted. #SheisRooted

Nut butter problems...


I began my weight loss journey with the 21 Day Fix, helping me with portion sizes. The first few months, I measured everything because I knew it worked. Then I got lazy, I can eye my peanut/almond butter in my shake...bam! next thing I know, there's 1/4 the jar of peanut butter in my shake. I recommitted to always measuring and my waistline is shrinking and my shakes taste just as delicious! Thank you, 21 Day Fix for being the tool that's been in my back pocket this whole time but I've not been using you for your full potential!

Pumpkin Spice Latte Shake

Are you a Starbucks Pumpkin Spice Latte addict? I know I used to be! When I worked there, I couldn't even tell you how many I drank. Living in Florida, an iced pumpkin spice latte was the way to go because it was hot out and it tasted like Fall. (Truly, one of the only ways to experience Fall in Florida). Break that expensive habit and try this!  Now, with that delicious pumpkin taste, you can also get your vitamins and energy including digestive enzymes, probiotics, prebiotics, antioxidants, and adaptogens.


Did you know that until this year, there wasn't even a drop of pumpkin IN their Pumpkin Spice Latte?? That's a whole lot of chemicals and none of what I really want - real pumpkin! This year, they've allegedly added 2% pumpkin to their pumpkin sauce. I guess we're stepping in the right direction to real ingredients?



To make: 
1 scoop of Vanilla Shakeology
1 shot of espresso (or 1/2 cup of coffee)
1 cup unsweetened almond milk
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
Dash of cinnamon and nutmeg

Blend together and enjoy. 

Another favorite I frequent during the Fall is Chocolate Pumpkin: 


To make: 
1 scoop Chocolate Shakeology
1/2 cup canned pumpkin
1 cup cold brew coffee
Dash of cinnamon and nutmeg
Blend & enjoy!

Peanut Butter, Banana, Chocolate Shake
